Lingerie fit & fabric guide
Buying intimates online is easier when you know how brands size bands and cups, which fabrics stretch over time,
and when to size up or down. This guide explains how we think about fit at Luxe Intimates — use it alongside product
photos and Shopify sizing charts on each item.
Understanding bra sizing
Most bras use a band + cup system (for example 34C). The band is the number around your ribcage;
the cup letter reflects volume relative to that band. Sister sizing means the same cup volume can appear as different
letter/number pairs (36B and 34C are related). If the band rides up in back, try a smaller band and larger cup;
if the band digs in, try a larger band and smaller cup.
- Band should sit level — not climbing toward your shoulders.
- Cups should contain tissue without spillage or gaping at the top.
- Straps adjust lift; they should not carry all the weight (the band should).
How to measure at home
- Wear a lightly lined, non-padded bra or none at all.
- Measure snugly around your ribcage just under the bust — round to the nearest even inch for your band starting point.
- Measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
- Compare bust minus band difference to a brand’s size chart on the product page — charts differ by designer.
Virtual try-on in our iOS app helps you preview silhouette and color; it does not replace
a tailor’s tape for first-time bra fitting.
Panties, bodysuits, and shapewear
Hip measurement matters more than dress size for briefs and thongs. Bodysuits and teddies should feel smooth at the
crotch and waist without pulling at the shoulder — if you are between sizes, we usually suggest sizing up for bodysuits
with non-stretch lace panels.
Fabric notes
- Lace & mesh — little stretch; size for comfort at the band, not “break in.”
- Microfiber & modal — soft drape, moderate stretch; good for everyday sets.
- Satin & silk blends — delicate; hand-wash or lingerie bag on gentle cycle.
- Underwire styles — wires should sit flat against the sternum; never bend wires to “force” fit.
Bridal and occasion lingerie
Plan fittings 4–6 weeks before an event so you can exchange if needed. Pale fabrics can show through thin dress linings —
try nude or blush tones under your actual garment. See our shop for current occasion edits.
Returns and exchanges
Hygiene rules apply to intimate apparel: unworn items with tags attached may qualify per our
